Talent Development Southland

Talent Development Southland is the entity responsible for governing and overseeing talent development in Southland, including the highly successful Academy Southland programme.

There are six board members, including:

Keith Brown (Chair)
Keith is a partner at Cruickshank Pryde Barristers and Solicitors. Between 2009 and 2012 he was a professional rugby referee. He is a member of the NZ Law Society Lawyers' Standards Committee Southland Branch, on the Board of Trustees at Myross Bush School and is a former Sport Southland trustee. 

Rex Capil
Rex is the Group Manager Policy and Community for Southland District Council. He is a board member of New Zealand Cycle Trails Inc, is on the Board of Directors - Oceania Vice President for the International Softball Federation and is a Leader at Education Southland. He is a former Chair of New Zealand Softball. 

Jane Muir
Jane is a 16 time New Zealand sprint champion and represented New Zealand in athletics between 1994 and 2006, including attending a World Championship, World Cup, two Commonwealth Games and two World University Games. She is a qualified teacher, is the Wyndham Athletics Club organiser and coach, a co-organiser of the Southland Primary School Athletics Championships and is treasurer and manager of the Wyndale Soccer Club.

Peter Thompson
Peter is the Aquatic Services Manager for Invercargill City Council, managing Splash Palace. He is the Oceania President/NZ Chair for the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations, is the national president for TOA Fighting Systems, is the Southland Director for the Martial Arts Institute. He is also Chair of the Southland Community Broadcasters Charitable Trust (Radio Southland), Chair of the Water Safety NZ Southland Advisory Group and is a member of the Southern Institute of Technology Sport and Recreation Advisory Committee. 

Murray Brown
Murray is the General Manager Marketing at Alliance Group Ltd. He has been a selector for the New Zealand U20 rugby side since 2010, has coached rugby, cricket and basketball, including time as the Southland Stags Assistant Coach and, as a player, has represented Southland at senior level in rugby, cricket, indoor cricket, badminton and basketball. 

Brendon McDermott
Brendon is Chief Executive at Sport Southland. He is a trustee for Triathlon New Zealand, coaches junior rugby at the Star Rugby Club and is a former national U18 triple jump champion. Brendon has worked at Sport Southland since 2006.
